Willow Park is located in the South East quadrant of Calgary. An older neighbourhood lined with tall Willow and Poplar trees, several schools and a stunning golf course, Willow Park is a well-established grove close to all of the desired amenities. People looking for a quaint and charming neighbourhood will find it at Willow Park.
Willow Park is a heavily treed neighbourhood with plenty of parks and green space making for a very active community. Driving through Willow Park, you will see many people out exercising, walking dogs or participating in sports. The neighbourhood is vibrant with lots of local businesses sprinkled throughout the entire community. It is a very walkable neighbourhood and close to the Anderson C-Train Station making it an easy area to navigate.
The City of Calgary 2012 municipal census reported that the median household income in Willow Park was $63, 588 in 2000 and that there were 10.8 per cent low income residents living in the neighbourhood. Renting is slightly above average since most rental properties are whole homes or townhouses. In terms of going out for a coffee or meal in this area, pricing is average. There are nice restaurants and cafes but you also have some very affordable options.
While there aren’t many downsides to this neighbourhood, some may argue that due to the many schools in the area, Willow Park may not be well suited for those looking for a quiet, adult neighbourhood. Also, since Willow Park is centrally located in the South East, many people use the neighbourhood roads to get to other communities such as Acadia and Lake Bonavista.
Willow Park is conveniently located very close to Anderson C-Train Station where residents can catch the train as well as a variety of city buses to other parts of the city. While public transportation is very convenient, Willow Park is predominantly a driving neighbourhood. However, the nice wide roads of the community make for safe bike-riding and commuting.
Willow Park is centrally located between many schools, parks, grocery stores and shopping centres. There are five schools in the area including Willow Park Middle School, Maple Ridge Elementary, R.T. Alderman Junior High, a French Immersion School as well as a Catholic Elementary School, St. William. The Trico Centre, a recreation centre that includes a swimming pool, gym and more is located on the South border of Willow Park. Southcentre Mall and Willow Park Village are also located in the South West corner of Willow Park.
Being an older neighbourhood, some original owners still reside in Willow Park and it is a very senior-friendly community. This neighbourhood is also very popular for families, especially for families who want to live in an older, established neighbourhood as opposed to a newer suburb. According to the City of Calgary 2012 municipal census, 15.4 per cent of residents were immigrants.
Willow Park is an active and vibrant community. Most of the homes were built in 1965, the year in which Willow Park became an official neighbourhood. As a result, the area also has an established feel to it with big homes and townhouses. The first thing people notice about Willow Park is the beautiful tree-lined streets.
