Westwood Plateau

Coquitlam

Introduction

Westwood Plateau in north Coquitlam is a dream for golfers – but non-golfing residents also enjoy its luscious green forests and parks, and large homes. Westwood Plateau is bounded by Port Moody on the west and Coquitlam River on the east – to the north, it ends at the mountains. The southern edge of the neighbourhood follows David Avenue from Coquitlam River to Port Moody.

Lifestyle

Driving into Westwood Plateau is pretty much all up hill, but when you reach the top, the view is spectacular. Homebuilders have been capitalizing on these views over the past few decades with high-end homes looking over the Lower Mainland. Westwood Plateau backs onto the mountains, and this backdrop creates a magnificent green ambiance for the residential neighbourhood.

The Vibe

With green forests backing onto the magnificent west coast mountains, the scenery here is breathtaking. The city has gone to great lengths to preserve green space in the area, as it has in much of the Coquitlam, offering its residents a wide range of options to stay fit and healthy. From the Coquitlam Crunch to the many neighbourhood parks, Westwood Plateau is a mecca for urban outdoor enthusiasts.

Meet the Neighbours

Coquitlam is becoming one of the most diverse cities in the Lower Mainland attracting people with connections to places around the world and this can be seen in Westwood Plateau. According the 2011 Census, many new Coquitlam residents are originally from Asia as well as Europe, Africa and North and South America.

In the Area

This is largely a residential area but golf amenities are an integral part of it. The 18-hole Golf Course weaves through the neighbourhood and on any given day, golf carts can be seen crossing the roads going from one section to the other. To bring services closer to Westwood Plateau residents, a shopping hub has been built in the southeast corner with a grocery store, bank and food outlets.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Shuttle buses service Westwood Plateau connecting the residential neighbourhood to Coquitlam Town Centre with its transit hub and West Coast Express station. Otherwise, residents are fairly car-dependent and connecting to key driving routes can be cumbersome. And in winter, drivers should have good winter tires as the roads, being so high above the rest of the Lower Mainland, can get icy.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Slippery winter conditions and hilly walks might deter some people from moving to Westwood Plateau, but residents who are established there love the green spaces that have been preserved in the neighbourhood. Many homes back onto the large parks that are in the middle of the neighbourhood. And those who enjoy a good hike can challenge themselves with the Coquitlam Crunch and many other steep climbs.

Dollars & Sense

Parts of Westwood Plateau cater to those with more money, and the golf courses located in the neighbourhood attest to that. Many detached homes look luxurious look and the clean, well-kept streets, boulevards and yards reflect the well-heeled population. But in the lower area of the neighbourhood, there are some more affordable condo buildings and townhomes and the shopping options aren’t out of the price range of middle-income residents.
