University of Toronto Mississauga Campus

Mississauga

Introduction

The University of Toronto Mississauga campus, which sits just west of Mississauga Road, is a beautifully rustic site. Cradled by the winding Credit River to the south and east, it is sealed at its northern edge by Outer Cir Road, which winds throughout the entire campus. Nestled among surrounding forest, this peaceful spot functions as an independent village for students and residents.

Lifestyle

The University of Toronto Mississauga is isolated from the busy highway and city entre nearby in downtown Mississauga. Set in a beautifully wooded former estate, the campus is almost entirely self-contained. Its small size and lovely wooded walking paths make for a cozy community, independent of the world around it.

Dollars & Sense

Students often feel that they are a captive audience to campus shops, but all the food on campus is accessible to a regular budget. Those with cooking facilities can easily make their own food, and Zipcar has two locations on campus to make shopping easier. The free transit pass means that no one is stuck on campus. Parking is not free, but available at a reasonable cost.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

The complaints here are limited to the typical gripes about uninspiring food and small dorm rooms. The staff and students feel safe walking through the wooded pathways, given that assaults are very rare. There are also emergency buttons all across campus, and an escort program is available at all times.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

A Mississauga transit pass is included in tuition. Extensive parking lots can be accessed with the purchase of a sessional or annual parking permit. Those who live in residence but want to partake of the occasional grocery store run can rent a Zipcar on campus. Many students get to and around campus on the paths that are shared by pedestrians and cyclists. Underground tunnels connect buildings for winter classroom commutes.

In the Area

With housing, athletic facilities, student lounges and restaurants, a theatre, an art gallery, classrooms and libraries, and a convenience store all on campus, all necessary amenities are on site. For a larger grocery store, a movie theatre, or a shopping mall, students must leave campus. Fortunately Square One Shopping Centre is only 20 minutes away by bus, and a transit pass is provided as part of the student registration package.

Meet the Neighbours

Students hail from all around the GTA and the globe to attend The University of Toronto Mississauga campus. According the U of T website, students from China, India, the United States, Brazil and South Korea make up the greatest number of international students. Local students may live just a short bike ride from campus. The campus is mainly undergraduate, endowing it with a youthful vigour.

The Vibe

Despite its secluded tranquility, UTM harbours the undercurrent of excitement that infuses all universities. The natural setting is in beautiful contrast to the elegant modern architecture that graces this campus. State-of-the-art technology connects classrooms and laboratories to campus wifi, enabling full use of the latest digital learning tools. Popular programs like CCIT (Communications, Culture and Information Technology) and Computer Science contribute to the cutting edge atmosphere.
