Lytton Park

Toronto

Introduction

Bounded by Lawrence West in the north, Eglinton West in the south, Mount Pleasant in the east, and the Allen Expressway in the west, Lytton Park is a quiet, family-friendly neighbourhood in mid-town Toronto. The green, tree-lined streets and many parks and ravines make it a wonderful neighbourhood to stroll through in almost any weather.

Lifestyle

Lytton Park is a mostly residential neighbourhood, with most of the area’s shops and businesses lying along the main streets on the neighbourhood’s boundaries. With its quiet streets, parks and playgrounds, and large houses, Lytton Park is a haven for families. Though the area bustles with activity in the morning and afternoon, most of the action takes place during the day; this is not a night-life neighbourhood.

Dollars & Sense

Buying property here is expensive, but if you’re looking to rent the apartments are reasonably priced. Although you can find some budget deals, most of the shops and businesses cater to a more affluent crowd.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Lytton Park is a safe, walkable, and family-friendly neighbourhood that is great for young families. However, it’s an expensive area and if you’re looking for nightlife you have to venture outside its boundaries.

The neighbourhood has good access to public transit, with 24-hour bus lines on Bathurst, Lawrence, Yonge, and Eglinton. Bathurst has a reputation for being a terrible street to drive on, but the other main streets generally have a reasonable amount of traffic and the Allen Expressway gives fast access to the highway network. Parking is available on both main and residential streets.

In the Area

Lytton Park’s family-friendly vibe can be felt in the area’s amenities. There are plenty of parks and ravines, elementary and high schools (both public and private), and a public library. The Beltline trail, perfect for walking and cycling, runs through the area. There are also synagogues and kosher restaurants and grocery stores that cater to the area’s Jewish population.

Meet the Neighbours

Lytton Park is a relatively young neighbourhood, with lots of families with young children. Many of the roads host summer games of street hockey, and drivers need to be alert for kids on bikes, skateboards and rollerblades, particularly around the schools. The area is also home to a large Jewish community, and a number of the area’s businesses cater to that population.

The Vibe

If you were to sum up Lytton Park in one phrase, that phrase would be “family-friendly”. This quiet neighbourhood is filled with families, and there are plenty of schools and parks to accommodate them. Many of the area’s shops and restaurants are geared to families, and the side streets are safe and walkable with stop signs, speed bumps, and sidewalks.
