Castlemore Crossing

Brampton

Introduction

Lying between the confines of Castlemore Road in the north, The Gore Road to its west, Cottrelle Boulevard in its southern outskirts, and Clarkeway Drive in the east is Castlemore Crossing, a vast suburban residential community that lies just a dozen or so kilometres northeast of downtown Brampton, and boasts of the West Humber River that flows through its western limits.

Lifestyle

Historically a farmland, Castlemore Crossing is a relatively young residential neighbourhood that has seen rapid real estate development since the 1990’s. The area houses several hundred single detached homes that fall within the “luxury” category because of their sprawling square footage. Despite their luxury houses, the lifestyle here is middle-class, and compared to Toronto standards, quiet, relaxed, friendly, family-oriented, neighbourly, humble and diverse.

Dollars & Sense

Single detached homes at Castlemore Crossing come with a price tag of that starts in the lower 400’s. Area conveniences such as FreshCo and dollar stores make day to day living affordable and friendly to the pocket. Residents mostly flock to downtown Brampton hangouts for their Friday night jollies, while elders gather in area churches or gurudwaras (Sikh temple) for their community events, and meet and greets.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

The area offers a sense of safety, brotherhood and kinship. For those living here, life is idyllic albeit insular. For those looking in from the outside, it may seem a little passé, until you realize what a great place it is for families. To city dwellers looking to move here — a car is a prerequisite and you might suffer from a case of nosey neighbours once in a while.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Residents of Castlemore Crossing own an average of two cars per family, as this is a necessity here. Distances to local conveniences are far, and therefore not walkable, unless you’re in the mood for a mini hike along highway-like thoroughfares. Highway 50 is the main connector to the rest of Brampton and GTA.

In the Area

Folks living here have to drive outside of the neighbourhood, at least half a mile or so, to get to the nearest area conveniences which are housed in expansive strip malls, shopping plazas, nature parks and recreational centres. Kids in this area are well served, as parents have institutions like Castlemore Public School, Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic School, Beryl Ford Public School and Sir Isaac Brock School to choose from.

Meet the Neighbours

The majority of Castlemore Crossing residents are South Asians, more specifically from Punjab. The main languages spoken are punjabi and hindi, with a smattering of creole heard every now and then. Residents hold jobs in occupations from the agriculture, manufacturing, trucking, and administrative sectors, and earnings range from $70,000 to $100,000.

The Vibe

Castlemore Crossing is not as green as one would expect, as it is still a growing neighbourhood. Patches of greenery exist in the form of front lawns and backyards, and near curbs where seniors gather for their afternoon tea, children ride their bikes under the sage observance of their grandparents, and teens indulge in backyard cricket or basketball while their moms and dads return from their occupations.
