Greenland Group and local social enterprise initiative the PATCH Project recently collaborated to develop the hoarding around Greenland’s construction site at the Lakeside Residences condominiums located at Lower Sherbourne and Lakeshore.

PATCH connected Greenland with Toronto muralist and designer Pam Lostracco, best known for her 2015 Mountain Mirage piece, which went viral few years ago and has since been replicated in thousands of wallpaper and tapestry designs.

After much research and many site visits to learn about the history of the neighbourhood and the community’s relationship with the space, Lostracco blended her photography and graphic skills to bring the newly installed 375-ft. mural to life.

Called Reflections, Lostracco’s piece gives passersby a window into what the neighbourhood, especially Toronto’s skyline, will look like once construction at Lakeside Residences is complete. It also pays homage to Toronto’s industrial past by incorporating the historic Redpath Sugar Factory into the piece, which is a stark contrast to the new waterfront condo development.

The mural, located at 215 Lakeshore Blvd. E., illustrates an exact reflection of the water, including the warm tones that are seen during certain times of the day. Lostracco also used horizontal lines to evoke a calming space, seen not only in the water and skyline of Reflections, but also in her 2015 Mountain Mirage work.

Greenland was so thrilled with Lostracco’s ability to capture the site and its gateway to the waterfront that she is currently creating a smaller-scale aluminum replica of her hoarding piece that will permanently live in their corporate office.

Reflections is available to view and enjoy at the pre-construction site of Lakeside Residences, a multi-tower, condominium development designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects. Like Reflections, once complete, the unobstructed views from the project’s Lake Suites tower will be incomparable. Units facing north overlook Toronto’s famous skyline and downtown core, while units facing south indulge in spanning views of Lake Ontario and Toronto Island. The development is the ideal location for recreational culture enthusiasts who will enjoy the neighbourhood’s running and bicycle trails, including the Don River trail and Cherry Beach across the street. Residents will also benefit from investments from all levels of government, including the private sector. Google’s upcoming Sidewalk Toronto project, for instance, will bring the latest standards in sustainability, affordability, mobility and economic opportunity to the neighbourhood.
