In 2000, Hans and his brothers envisioned a new direction. Instead of sub-dividing old manufacturing plants into smaller lease units, as their father had done, they decided to convert these spaces into live/work condominiums. They believed this approach would yield greater returns and set them on a more rewarding path, leading to the birth of Atria Development Corporation. The I-ZONE live/work lofts, Atria’s first project, played a significant role in the revitalization of Leslieville. This industrial neighbourhood had fallen on hard times, but the project helped transform it into one of the most desirable areas for people in the arts and cultural industries to live, work, and play. Atria's involvement was a key part of this transformation, contributing to the neighbourhood's resurgence and appeal.
